Appointed by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors as one of the original five councilmembers. Elected to four, two-year Council terms beginning in 1952; elected Mayor by the Council on June 12, 1958; and, in 1960, was the first Mayor to be elected to office by Scottsdale voters. Elected to two, two-year terms as Mayor.
