Tuesday is Special Election Day in Scottsdale
Voters to consider General Plan Update, franchise agreement & charter amendments
Voters will consider:
- The General Plan Update. The proposed plan will guide development and growth in the city for the next 10 to 20 years. Cities and towns are typically required to update their plans every 10 years.
- Southwest Gas franchise agreement. If approved by voters, the agreement would allow Southwest Gas to continue using the city's rights of way for pipelines and equipment.
- Seven charter amendments. These proposals are carryovers and did not make it on the 2010 ballot. The amendments would seek to change or clarify the charter, which is the document that defines the city's roles and powers.
An election pamphlet with additional information on the ballot items is available at www.scottsdaleaz.gov/elections. The pamphlet was mailed in February to all Scottsdale households with registered voters.
The polling location is listed on the mailing label of the publicity pamphlet. Registered voters can also find polling locations at http://recorder.maricopa.gov/pollingplace/pollingplace.aspx.
As of Monday, March 5, roughly 77,768 early ballots have been requested by voters. Of those, 16,552 have been returned to Maricopa County.
Under Arizona law, Scottsdale voters will be required to provide identification when voting at a polling site. Identification must match the voter’s name and address shown on the Maricopa County Elections Signature Roster. If the voter does not have acceptable identification at the polling place, the voter will be permitted to vote a Provisional Ballot, but must present acceptable identification to the City Clerk or the Maricopa County Recorder by 5 p.m. the Friday after the election for the ballot to be valid.
Election results will be available after 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, at www.Scottsdaleaz.gov/elections.
