Scottsdale wants you to “Get Wild” in July for Park & Rec Month

“Get Wild” and celebrate National Park and Recreation Month during July. The world of parks and recreation touches more than 300 million people in this county -- about 5 million in Scottsdale alone.

Of that 5 million, four belong to Scottsdale’s Caragher family – parents Cynthia and Tom and daughters Elizabeth, 7, and Anna, 5.  “Our family seems to live at Cactus Aquatic and Fitness Center,” says Cynthia. Tom has participated in lap swim for about 15 years and Cynthia for nearly 11. The girls started taking swim lessons at 6 months old and haven’t stopped. Cynthia sums up her experience by touting the experienced instructors, caring staff and affordable programs. “I can't begin to say enough good things about our experiences with the parks and rec program. It's wonderful, and we are truly grateful.  Thank you for everything!”

The city will be offering and highlighting activities every day during July in honor of the commemoration. They include:

  • Free programs including a kids’ soccer clinic, Zumba, kick boxing, Pilates for youth, ballroom dance, and fitness and photography classes
  • Swim and dive championships at Cactus Aquatic and Fitness Center
  • Hawaiian Day Luau at Eldorado Aquatic and Fitness Center
  • Free concerts at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park

Scottsdale has 41 public parks that encompass 941 acres, four public swimming pools, 105 miles of bike lanes, 67 miles of paved paths and 143 miles of non-preserve trails.  Last year, more than 50,000 people registered for various classes and activities.
