Vista del Camino, Concerned Citizens group need your support
There are a number of ways you can help our community and citizens in need this summer. These programs need assistance:
** Back to School Program: Donations are needed to ensure about 500 students enrolled in the program can receive two new sets of clothes, backpacks, school supplies and shoes. Vista del Camino and Concerned Citizens for Community Health will accept items through Friday, July 29. They will also accept cash donations, which will be entrusted to Concerned Citizens, a non-profit organization that has supported Vista del Camino operations for more than 35 years. Donations are tax deductible. Monetary donations are eligible for the Helping the Working Poor Tax Credit for 2011. Appointments for families who need assistance are on a first come, first served basis. For more information, contact Lily Williams at (480) 312-0063.
** Clothing Bank: Consider making a donation of your gently used items to the Vista Clothing Bank which is in dire need of children- and adult-sized clothing. Donations are accepted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at Vista, 7700 E. Roosevelt St. Donations to the clothing bank are entrusted to Concerned Citizens. For information on the clothing bank or to make an appointment to check eligibility to receive donations, call (480) 312-2323.
** Food Bank: The food bank is in low supply. Summer donations are important because they assist children who are home from school. In addition, electric bills run higher and leave many families with less money for groceries. Arizona ranks 10th in the nation in food insecurity and unemployment rates are near all-time highs. You can drop off non-perishable items from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at Vista. Call the number above for more information.
