Meet aviation legends at the Scottsdale Air Fair this weekend

The Scottsdale Air Fair at Scottsdale Airport Nov. 5 and 6 will let people experience aviation up-close with the best of military, experimental, civilian and vintage war bird displays and also will officially kick-off the United States Marine Corps Reserves 2011 Toys for Tots program.

Event summary
The Scottsdale Air Fair will feature a variety of displays and activities on the ground giving event goers a hands-on, interactive experience. Guests will get to look inside planes, talk to pilots and learn about aviation in all of its forms. The two-day event is expected to draw more than 20,000 people.

Guests can see all kinds of aircraft, from bi-planes and World War II aircraft like the B-17, B-25 and the P-51, to current military aircraft including Navy F-18 fighters, Predator drones and several kinds of military helicopters.  Learn more about space exploration by visiting the NASA exhibit.  On Saturday evening, enjoy some music by local band, The Bellwethers, as hot air balloons light up the sky.

A variety of food options, including some gourmet food trucks from the Phoenix Street Food Coalition will be available.  Live entertainment will be ongoing throughout the weekend.

A detailed schedule of events is available at www.ScottsdaleAirFair.com.

“We are excited to give the public an opportunity to look at the airport for themselves, to see and enjoy a fascinating variety of aviation,” said Aviation Director Gary Mascaro.  “We want to increase public awareness of the airport, facilitate a learning experience for future aviators, and foster goodwill for Scottsdale Airport and the local community.”

Tickets purchased in advance are $12 for ages 16 and up and $7 for ages 11-15 (kids under 11 are free). Advance tickets and a variety of weekend, group and VIP packages are available at www.ScottsdaleAirFair.com or by calling 480-980-2174.
