Council approves budget for new fiscal year that begins July 1
The City Council gave final approval Tuesday, June 5, to the Scottsdale fiscal year budget that begins July 1.
The approved budget includes $250.3 million for the General Fund, which pays for most of the services traditionally associated with local government. General Fund revenues are projected to increase by 15 million next fiscal year, a 7 percent increase from the current year.
Some of the additional revenue will be needed to cover rising costs over which the city has limited control: utilities, fuel and state retirement plan contributions. Funding was also increased to “catch up” on important things that were deferred over the past few years, such as repair and replacement of public facilities and parks. Such repairs had been deferred due to decreased revenue from the overall economic downturn.
City workers who meet or exceed performance expectations will be eligible to receive performance-based increases for the first time since 2009, under the approved budget. To help offset these increases, 33 positions totaling $2.3 million were eliminated from the budget.
