On 02/04/13 SPD was called to the intersection of McDowell and Granite Reef Roads for a serious collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist.
The bicycle was being ridden by a 72 year old female eastbound on the north side of McDowell approaching Granite Reef. She entered the roadway and was struck by a yellow Mazda being driven by a 20 year old male. The Mazda was turning right from southbound Granite Reef to westbound McDowell. The bike rider suffered severe head trauma and was not wearing a helmet. She was transported to SHC-Osborn with life threatening injuries. The roadway was closed for 3 hours during the investigation. No citations were issued.
On Saturday, 02/09/13 at 4:00 pm she died from the injuries she sustained during the collision.
