Scottsdale Citizens Able to Fight Crime Anonymously with Text, App, and Computer Tips
October 4, 2012 - The Scottsdale Police Department has implemented the use of new software called TipSoft created by Crime Reports which opens new avenues of sharing information where only the use of placing a phone call existed in the past. This program allows citizens of Scottsdale to now send anonymous crime tips via computer, smart phone or cell phone to help partner with SPD in fighting crime. The “tipster” can also receive information on the tip while their identity continues to remain unknown to investigators.
Text users can send information to “CRIMES” 274637, by entering keyword scottsdalepd. Simply text your tip and it is encrypted as it goes through secure servers protecting the identity of the tip sender. Computer or mobile phone users can submit their tip through our website, or app, which allows users to select the location of the crime, provide details, and upload pictures.
As helpful as this service is, it does not replace calling 911 in case of an emergency or to report a crime in progress. By guaranteeing anonymity we are hopeful that those who may have been reluctant in the past will now be willing to share information that may be the difference in identifying and apprehending a criminal.
