SPD received a call from the female resident at this house who reported there was a guest at the house who was fighting with her boyfriend and had a knife. While responding to the house, SPD received a 911 call from a cab driver reporting a male fare had pulled a knife on him and held it to the driver's neck. He forced him to drive back to the neighborhood (of 12074 N. 135th Place). Officers believed that the 2 calls to 911 were prompted by the same suspect.
When officers arrived, they called the residents out of the house. The male and female residents exited the house unharmed. The male guest came out moments later with a pool cue in each hand. The held the pool cues in a threatening manner, ignoring the officers commands to drop the cues and stop advancing. During the confrontation, a K9 officer deployed his dog on the suspect and an officer was forced to shoot the suspect. Two rounds were fired with at least one striking and killing the suspect. The K9 biting the suspect was also hit by gunfire.
The suspect was deceased on the scene. The K9 "Raider" was transported to an emergency animal hospital where he is still being treated for a single gunshot wound to the shoulder/neck area.
No officers were injured during the incident.
We have learned so far that the couple met the male guest at a bar earlier in the evening. He was invited back to the house, but left in a cab sometime before the incident. He returned to the house and came back inside. That is when the confrontation with the knife happened with the male resident. The cabby drove to a convenience store before calling SPD, which accounted for the delay in reporting the incident.
The deceased male suspect is in his mid-20's, however, has not yet been identified by police. The male and female residents are 50 and 35 years (respectively).
The officer that shot the suspect is a 19-year veteran police Lieutenant, Ron Bayne.
