Update:
Intersection video does not capture the vehicle plate, however the camera captures the moments after the impact. Prior to the suspect vehicle entering the video from the right side of the screen a left turning vehicle from the left side of the screen (uninvolved in the collision) can be seen. As the video progresses the scooter can be seen separating from the suspect vehicle, it then slides through the intersection. The victim is not seen in the video as he was knocked off of the scooter at the time of the impact.
The victim is still hospitalized in serious condition.

Original report:
On 07/29/12 at 10:00 pm the 21 year old male rider of a motor scooter was northbound on Scottsdale Road approaching McDowell when he was sideswiped by a black Nissan also driving the same direction. The driver of the Nissan fled the scene in an unknown direction. The driver of the scooter was not wearing a helmet and was transported to SHC Osborn with severe head trauma. The victim is expected to survive.
The intersection was closed for 4 hours during the investigation.
