Suspect vehicle, a pickup truck, was observed by an officer on routine patrol driving at about 76 St. and Greenway/Hayden Loop. The officer stopped the vehicle for a civil traffic violation. Immediately on approaching the pickup truck, multiple backflow preventers (14) were observed in the bed of the truck. Suspects were detained and subsequently arrested for numerous charges including backflow preventer thefts, possession of burglary tools, driving on a suspended license and other charges. Multiple businesses (approximately 16 at time of this writing) in the area were identified as having their backflow preventers stolen and/or cut apart. Our investigators will work to get the items back to businesses they belong to, but the damage done by equipment removal will total in the thousands of dollars.
The suspects are being held in custody.
