The SPD Auto Crimes Unit is offering a free VIN Etching event that will be held at the Police Department’s District One Station, 7601 E. McKellips, on Wednesday April 4, 2012, between 3:00-5:00 p.m. Bring your insurance card and vehicle registration.
VIN Etching is a process that permanently etches the vehicle’s VIN number on all of the glass on your vehicle. If your vehicle is stolen and the VIN plate on the dashboard is changed, the vehicle can be identified by VIN numbers on the windows. Also, if a thief is looking to steal your vehicle, they may see that your windows are etched and move on to another vehicle.
