Fire Station 6 serves a population of 19,262 that includes the Scottsdale Unified School District "Desert Mountain Learning Community," featuring Desert Mountain High School, 3 middle schools and 5 elementary schools.
Apparatus at Station 6 includes a ladder truck and a ladder tender that is staffed by a four-person crew of 2 EMTs and 2 paramedics.
The ladder truck is strategically placed to provide aerial fire support to the Eastern portion of the Shea corridor. Ladder trucks give an advantage to crews by:
- Allowing access or egress of firefighters and casualties at height;
- Providing a high level water point for firefighting (elevated master stream);
- Providing a working platform from which tasks such as ventilation or overhaul can be executed.
