Winfield ScottCross Cultural Series focuses on Scottsdale’s diverse past; how it blends with today’s society - Local historians and long-time residents talk about the areas settled by European Americans.  Those settlers, who first arrived to the Scottsdale area in 1888 (including founder Army Chaplain Winfield Scott - pictured), would be astounded at the city Scottsdale has become .  . . and fascinated by the mix of people who transformed it from a small farming village to a modern city.

Celebrations mark City Council transitions Two upcoming celebrations mark transitions in the Scottsdale City Council. One on Jan. 7 will honor Mayor Mary Manross and Council Member Betty Drake for their many years of service. A second on Jan. 13 marks the beginning of new terms for Mayor-elect J.W. "Jim" Lane, Councilman Ron McCullagh and Council Members-elect Lisa Borowsky and Suzanne Klapp.

The fun starts this Sunday, Jan. 11, when the Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction hosts Family Day at WestWorld, 16601 N. Pima Road.
