City swears in new judges; internal candidates capture posts

Longtime employees Joseph Olcavage and Statia Hendrix won the confidence of the Scottsdale City Council and soon will take their posts as the presiding city judge and associate city judge, respectively.

Outgoing Presiding Judge B. Monte Morgan will “swear in” his successor Joseph Olcavage at the Tuesday, March 6, City Council meeting. It will take place at 4 p.m. at Scottsdale City Hall, 3939 N. Drinkwater Blvd.  Morgan, who is retiring, has served as Scottsdale’s presiding judge since 2000.

Assistant City Prosecutor Statia Hendrix, who has been appointed to Olcavage’s associate judge seat, will be sworn in a small, private ceremony.

Both judges officially start their two-year terms Friday, March 9.

Olcavage has been an associate city judge since 1991.  Before that, he was a Scottsdale assistant city attorney and city prosecutor.  Olcavage served as interim presiding judge between July 1999 and March 2000.

Hendrix has been with the city since 2001.  She also has worked for the Dakota County (Hastings, Minn.) and Pima County Attorneys’ Offices.
