Catch a free ride: trolleys serve spring training games

Scottsdale’s free trolleys will again serve Scottsdale Stadium during the San Francisco Giants spring training games this season. Trolleys also connect to all that Downtown Scottsdale has to offer, including great dining and shopping, several public art installations and walking audio tours.  The Giants’ first spring training game with the Arizona Diamondbacks starts at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, at Scottsdale Stadium.

There are four different trolley routes to choose from:

• On game days, the Downtown Trolley operates a special event loop to serve the stadium every 15 minutes. Service on the extended Downtown route begins an hour and half before the start of each game and ends 30 minutes after each game.
• The Hospitality Trolley provides seasonal service approximately every 30 minutes, seven days a week from the northern part of the city and stops directly in front of the stadium.
• From southern Scottsdale, service is provided by the regular Neighborhood Trolley every 20 minutes.  The Neighborhood Route provides service all day to the stadium.
• The Miller Road Trolley provides service every 30 minutes to the stadium on weekdays and hourly on weekends.

Scottsdale offers free parking throughout the Downtown area along the Downtown Trolley route or within a short walking distance.  Parking lots adjacent to the stadium do fill quickly so fans should arrive early or plan ahead. Public parking structures are located at:

• Second Street & Drinkwater Boulevard
• Second Street & Brown Avenue
• Third Avenue & Craftsman Court
• West Main Street/Goldwater underground parking garage
• Parking garages and lots near Fashion Square Mall on Marshall Way/Via Soleri across from Nordstrom and Marshall Way, north of Camelback near Dillard’s
• Fifth Avenue and Scottsdale Road garage

Bicycles and bicycle taxis are temporarily prohibited from Drinkwater Boulevard between Osborn Road and Second Street during spring training games for safety reasons and to ensure efficient traffic flow.  Additionally, bike riding is prohibited within the Civic Center Mall area.  Alternate routes for bicycles include Brown and Miller roads which run parallel to Drinkwater Boulevard.  Bicyclists are welcome to walk their bikes through the restricted area.
