Registration is open for fall landscape workshops
Keep your home beautiful and water thrifty this winter by attending one or more of Scottsdale’s Water Conservation Fall 2012 Landscape Workshops. Classes are free and open to all Scottsdale residents. From plant care and selection to efficient watering, there is a workshop just right for you.
Workshops will be held on weekday evenings from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and some Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon at either the Granite Reef Senior Center, 1700 N. Granite Reef Road or at Scottsdale’s Xeriscape Garden, 5401 N. Hayden Road.
Advanced registration is required for all workshops and can be made on-line at www.scottsdaleaz.gov/Water/Conservation/workshops or by calling (480) 312-5690. Confirmations will be provided.
Here’s the workshop schedule:
Tuesday Oct. 2 - Fall & Winter Color Splashes for your Desert Gardens – This workshop will introduce you to the colors of winter desert plants and how to select the correct plants to brighten up your garden with splashes of seasonal color.
Thursday, Oct. 4 - Plant Selection for Landscaping – Choosing plants that are just right for your yard is the key to landscaping in the desert. You’ll learn basic design concepts and plant choices.
Saturday, Oct. 13 - Scottsdale Xeriscape Garden Tour – Go on a walking tour through Scottsdale’s 5.5 acre Xeriscape Garden with Bill Casenhiser, the Garden’s caretaker, and learn about beautiful, water thrifty plants that thrive in our desert environment.
Tuesday, Oct. 16 - Plant Care in the Desert – Wondering how to care for landscape plants in our desert environment? Find answers to your questions and learn how to work with nature to promote healthy plants and reduce landscape maintenance.
Thursday, Oct. 18 - Desert Plants for Edible landscapes – Design your garden to not only provide you with color, shade and easy maintenance, but design your garden to also provide you and your friends with edible plants to liven up your meals.
Thursday, Oct. 25 - Program Your Irrigation Controller - Take control of your landscape watering with step-by-step instructions and hands-on practice setting and adjusting the timer on your irrigation controller.
Saturday, Oct. 27 - Drip Irrigation Design & Installation – Simple things you need to know! Learn from an expert how to layout and install a drip system in your yard and get tips that will make it efficient and easy to maintain.
Saturday, Nov. 3 - Irrigation Maintenance, Troubleshooting & Repair - Get the basics on good maintenance practices, advice on problem solving and techniques you can use to keep your landscape irrigation system running smoothly.
