Scottsdale human resources director departs for a new opportunity
Terry Welker, Scottsdale’s executive director of human resources, submitted his resignation today. Welker is pursuing career opportunities closer to family in Iowa, where he and his wife are originally from.
The resignation will be effective Oct. 26. Acting City Manager Dan Worth will put a transition plan in place prior to Welker’s departure.
“We thank Terry for his service to Scottsdale and wish him and his family the best in the future,” said Worth.
Welker started with the city of Scottsdale in August 2010. He was named acting human resources executive director in December 2010, and was appointed to the position permanently in June 2011.
Welker applauded the high caliber professionals in Scottsdale’s human resources department and executive management team. His resignation cited many accomplishments in the last two years, including handing and processing more than 15,000 applications each year with deployment of a new web-based system and guiding the organization through major staff reductions driven by the economy.
“I am truly blessed to have been a part of this gold-medal team and will greatly value my time with the city of Scottsdale,” Welker said.
Scottsdale’s human resources department is responsible for employee recruitment, hiring, performance management, training, compensation and benefits. The department has 23.5 full time staff or equivalents.
