City releases both citizen-friendly and detailed annual reports
Scottsdale has released two reports on the city’s performance and finances. The annual Report to Our Citizens provides a high-level overview and the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report provides an in depth look. Both reports are available online at www.ScottsdaleAZ.gov/finance.
The city’s annual Report to Our Citizens is designed in a citizen-friendly format. While some government reports end up the size of a phone book – this report summarizes key information in just four pages. The short report is intended to give citizens a better understanding of their government and provide a more meaningful debate about fiscal priorities, performance results and future challenges.
The city also released its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. This report contains detailed financial information about all city financial activities and funds. An independent auditor, CliftonLarsonAllen, LLP, issued an unqualified (“clean”) opinion on the city’s financial statements for the year ended June 30, 2012.
“The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report is the definitive report on the city’s financial performance and its current financial condition,” said City Treasurer David N. Smith. “It validates how Scottsdale city government has met its fiduciary responsibility to protect the city's physical assets, service public debt and prudently manage all revenues for the benefit of its citizens. As the city’s financial report card, it supports the AAA ratings awarded by the three major credit rating agencies.”
Last year, both reports earned accolades. The citizen-friendly report earned a certificate of excellence for “a visually appealing and understandable four-page document that demonstrates accountability and transparency to its citizens.” The comprehensive report earned a certificate of achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for publishing an easily readable and efficiently organized report that satisfies accounting and legal requirements.
The city’s budget and financial reports are available online at: www.ScottsdaleAZ.gov/finance.
