P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon runs through Scottsdale Jan. 16


The P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon & 1/2 Marathon takes place Sunday, Jan. 16 and will restrict traffic and close streets through parts of Scottsdale, Phoenix and Tempe. Traffic restrictions and road closures on several major streets in Scottsdale will be in effect beginning at 5:30 a.m. and will last until early afternoon.

Drivers are strongly encouraged to use the freeway system to avoid the marathon route. 

The major street restrictions are:

  • Indian School Road closed eastbound from Scottsdale's western boundary (60th Street) to Goldwater Boulevard
  • Goldwater Boulevard closed southbound from Indian School Road to Scottsdale Road
  • Main Street closed in both directions from Goldwater Boulevard to Marshall Way
  • Marshall Way closed in both directions between Main Street and Goldwater Boulevard
  • Scottsdale Road closed southbound from Goldwater Boulevard (near Osborn Road) south to McDowell Road
  • McDowell Road closed eastbound from Scottsdale Road east to Hayden Road
  • Hayden Road closed southbound from McDowell Road to the Tempe city line

Over 30,000 people will participate in the marathon and 1/2 marathon.  During the event, the route for the runners is completely closed to all traffic.  Depending on their location, some residents may find themselves “boxed into” or “boxed out of” an area.  

Drivers who are in the area between Indian School and McDowell roads west of Scottsdale Road are encouraged to use southbound 68th Street to avoid race closures. Once at McDowell, drivers can go east to Scottsdale Road and then south to the 202 Red Mountain Freeway for access to Valley destinations.
