Giants host Dbacks Friday to kick off Cactus League season
The two words baseball fans love to hear will reverberate through Scottsdale Stadium at 1:05 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25.
“Play Ball!”
The World Champion San Francisco Giants launch the 2011 Cactus League season Friday in a home game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Fans will want to get to the stadium a little early to celebrate the Giants’ World Series victory. Signs celebrating the title will be unveiled and Mayor W.J. “Jim” Lane will pronounce March as “World Champion San Francisco Giants Month” in Scottsdale.
There’s plenty to celebrate this Cactus League season in Scottsdale.
The Giants will provide on-field excitement as they prepare to defend their title and the exceptional dining, shopping and entertainment opportunities of Downtown Scottsdale, as always, are just a short walk from the stadium.
New this year is an expanded spring training history exhibit at the Scottsdale Historical Museum, 7333 E. Scottsdale Mall. Scottsdale’s rich spring training history comes to life with a multimedia exhibit featuring items, displays and stories about Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays and other baseball greats. The museum is just a short walk from Scottsdale Stadium and admission is always free.
After every Giants home game this spring, the first 100 fans bringing their ticket stub to the museum will receive a free Giants spring training commemorative pin.
The Scottsdale Historical Museum is just one stop on the new Cactus League Legacy Trail. The trail is a regional partnership whose goal is to increase the awareness and appreciation of Arizona’s spring training history.
Six memorabilia collections in Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe and Phoenix make up the Cactus League Legacy Trail, a must-see journey for even casual baseball fans.

Scottsdale’s free trolleys will again serve Scottsdale Stadium during Giants spring training games this season. There are four different trolley routes to choose from. To see the routes, parking areas and more visit www.scottsdaleaz.gov/trolley.
The Giants continue their Cactus League season on Saturday, Feb. 26, with a 1:05 p.m. home game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
