The Gorilla pledges to Fix Leaks

The Phoenix Suns’ Gorilla is making the pledge to look for leaks around his home and is encouraging you to do the same, as part of the EPA’s Fix a Leak Week March 14 – 20.

In fact, the Gorilla is so committed to saving our most precious resource he is helping promote the inaugural “We’re for Water 4-Mile Race” at 8 a.m. on March 19 at Rio Vista Community Park in Peoria featuring his new friend, Leaky Loo McFlapper.

See two public service announcements featuring the Gorilla and Loo here and here.

Leaky Loo will lead the race so participants will literally be chasing a running toilet.  After the race everyone can enjoy a Family Fun Day featuring music, food and hands-on demonstrations for leak repair.

Water leaks can add up to as many as 10,000 gallons of water wasted each year in your home.  That’s enough to fill a backyard swimming pool.  The most common types of leaks found in the home include leaking toilet flappers, dripping faucets, shower heads and other leaking valves.  Remember to check for leaks in your irrigation system too.

Fixing leaks is easy to do, low cost and can save homeowners as much as ten percent or more on their water bills and preserve water for the future.

The event is hosted by the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association (AMWUA), whose members include the municipalities of Avondale, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Goodyear, Mesa, Peoria, Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe.  Working together, we are One for Water™.

Registration is just $25 and includes a snack, t-shirt and reusable water bottle.  To register or to learn more about Fix A Leak Week visit www.fixaleakweekaz.com

As a reminder, the EPA is also featuring one of the Valley’s most water-efficient homes on Tuesday, March 15 at 10:30 a.m., 914 E. Fairmount Avenue in Phoenix.
