Website launch helps citizens shape Scottsdale’s future

Scottsdale is taking the next step in building its future with the launch of a website detailing information on potential bond projects.

The city’s Bond Task Force also is entering a new phase. Members met Thursday, Nov. 17, to discuss the possible size and financial impact of a proposed bond program.

The Task Force was formed this summer by the City Council and charged with reviewing and recommending projects for a possible bond election in 2012 or beyond. To date, the Task Force has reviewed more than 40 possible projects.

The new website summarizes those proposed projects and will provide citizens with opportunities to comment as the process progresses. Feedback will be compiled regularly and shared with Task Force members and the community.

To view the bond project website, visit: www.ScottsdaleAZ.gov/BondTaskForce.

Scottsdale has a long history of citizen participation in developing bond programs; that grassroots focus has resulted in creation of such community icons as the Indian Bend Wash Greenbelt, the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts and the Civic Center Mall campus.

Bond Task Force members are working to continue that legacy and ensure that widespread community participation establishes a foundation for any future bond program.

The Task Force will meet two more times this year to assemble a list of possible bond projects before briefing the City Council on its work early in 2012. Public comment is encouraged at those meetings and will also be solicited on the bond website and through the city’s social media channels.

Here is the schedule for upcoming Bond Task Force meetings and topics. Meetings take place at 5 p.m.:

  • Dec. 1, Via Linda Sr. Center, 10440 E. Via Linda: Discussion and possible action on project-ranking criteria and introduction of project prioritization.
  • Dec. 15, Granite Reef Senior Center, 1700 N. Granite Reef Road: Prioritizing and grouping projects for possible bond election.
