Scottsdale invites proposals for downtown western art and history museum

The city of Scottsdale is requesting proposals from organizations interested in partnering on a western art and history museum in downtown Scottsdale. The facility is envisioned as a cultural amenity that will contribute to the downtown experience and attract visitors from around the globe.

Proposals to build and operate the museum on city-owned land south of Main Street at Marshall Way will be reviewed by a selection panel and may be recommended to city council for final contract award.

Organizations interested in responding to the request for proposals (RFP) are encouraged to attend a pre-proposal and site visit meeting on Wednesday, January 25 at 10 a.m. in the city of Scottsdale’s economic vitality conference room at 4021 N 75th Street. The RFP is available for download at www.scottsdaleaz.gov/EV/EVRFP.

As an initial step in the process, potential operators will have the opportunity to provide suggestions to the city about the project and proposed contract terms identified in the lease. The city will formally respond to the suggestions and publish them at the end of the comment period, expected to be early February. The process will continue with a formal question and answer period; final proposals will be due to the city in May.

Proposals will be evaluated on organizational capability, financial capability, facility design and construction, operating plan and economic impact.

The city council will make the final determination as to which proposal, if any, the city will pursue.

Comments and questions may be directed to Kim Hanna in the Economic Vitality Department at (480) 312-7612 or KHanna@ScottsdaleAz.gov.
