Scottsdale water resources executive director announces his departure

Scottsdale Water Resources Executive Director Marshall Brown has accepted a position as director of water for the city of Aurora, Colorado. Brown, who has successfully led Scottsdale’s water resources division since 2007, cited new opportunities and family as the reasons for his departure.

“This was an extremely difficult decision for me, but I have a fantastic professional opportunity to join a great organization in a community that is closer to family,” said Brown. “I truly enjoyed working for Scottsdale and with all of the dedicated professionals here. I wish everyone the best in the future.”

Brown will remain Scottsdale’s water resources executive director through the end of October to assist with the transition to new leadership. He starts Nov. 5 in Aurora. Scottsdale plans a nationwide recruitment to select a replacement.

“It has been my pleasure to work with Marshall,” said Dan Worth, Scottsdale’s acting city manager. “He is a true professional who will certainly be missed. I appreciate that he will be staying with us through the end of October to assist in providing us the most orderly transition possible.”

Scottsdale’s water resources division includes more than 200 full-time employees who operate one of the most advanced municipal water and wastewater treatment and delivery systems in the nation. In 2011, the department treated an average of 68 million gallons of drinking water a day, reclaimed more than 24 million gallons of wastewater a day for reuse and storage and processed more than 22,000 test samples to assure Scottsdale meets or surpasses all state and federal regulations.
