Scottsdale’s Solar Initiatives Recognized

In October of 2009 Scottsdale was voted the best city in Arizona for ‘Solar Permitting’ by the Vote Solar Initiative group, based on several criteria including turnaround timelines and fees. The Vote Solar Initiative www.votesolar.org is a not for profit organization based out of San Francisco. Their ‘Project Permit’ campaign aims to improve solar permitting across the nation by compiling information on best and worst solar permitting practices. Scottsdale ranked first out of the 34 AZ communities which reported solar data.

Scottsdale developed design guidelines for solar panel placement to ensure that panels are installed thoughtfully in a location which maximizes efficiencies while minimizing visual obtrusiveness. Scottsdale also created a 12-page packet entitled ‘Residential Solar Plan Review Quality Submittal Guidelines’ to assist the growing number of solar customers.
