Passport Information - Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will I get my birth certificate or my naturalization papers back?
A: Yes. When you submit them to our office with your application, they will be mailed back with your new passport in the mail.
Q: My children are under the age of 13. Does my spouse need to sign the papers?
A: Yes if they come into the center with you. Or, you may have them sign a paper that
states they give permission for you to process a passport in their name This paper needs
to be notarized. (New Federal Regulation as of November 1, 2004).
Q: My child is 6 days old. Does she need to come into the center?
A: Yes. Every applicant needs to be seen by a passport processing agent.
Q: My son was 12 when he was issued his first passport. Can't he just renew by
mail?
A: No. Anyone who is 15 years old or younger when they received their passport needs to
apply for a new passport at a passport office. Additionally, we need both the
expired passport and the certified birth certificate copy.
Q: I want to renew my passport by mail. Can I download the form from the
internet?
A: Yes, you can download the form at www.scottsdaleaz.gov/passports/forms.
Or, feel free to come into the Arabian Service Center, M- F 10 am - 6 pm or
the Papago Plaza Service Center, M - F 10 am - 6 pm for the form.
Q: I can't get off work when you process passports. Are there other locations?
A: Yes. We have a list of all the locations in the Valley who process M - F. These can be
found using the zip code locator at the federal website travel.state.gov.
Q: I need to get my passport in less than two weeks. Can you help me?
A: No. We can only process passports within a 6-week turn around or a 14-day turnaround.
Express services (stamped, sealed envelope commonly called Hand Carries) can be obtained
by using a private company listed in the Yellow Pages under passports.
Q: I can't find my birth certificate. Where can I get another certified copy?
A: We have a Vital Record list of all the states and phone numbers. Feel free to ask us
for it.
Q: Where can I get photos for my application?
A: We need two official passport photos which you can get at any of the office supply
stores, Walgreens, Kinkos, Motto Photo, Sams Club, Cosco, Mail Box Etc or AAA.
Q: I don't have a checking account. Can you take credit cards?
A: The passport application needs a check or money order. At the Arabian or Papago Service
Centers, you can pay the processing fee to the City of Scottsdale by check, cash or credit
card.
Q: I was born abroad. How do I get a birth certificate?
A: If one or both of your parents were US citizens, your parents should have received a
Consular Report Birth Abroad certificate.
Q: My passport was stolen. How can I get another one?
A: Apply for a new one immediately with your birth certificate and submit it with Form DS
64.
