A wildfire caused by a lightning strike is burning north of Scottsdale. The city has closed the north portion of its McDowell Sonoran Preserve (north of Dynamite Boulevard) until further notice.
This closure is enacted out of an abundance of caution for the public - while this fire does not presently pose an immediate threat, gusting winds can change that rapidly. Residents should pay attention to emergency messaging.
The closure includes all Preserve lands north of Dynamite Boulevard, including city trailheads at:
- Pima Dynamite
- Brown's Ranch
- Fraesfield
- Granite Mountain
- Neighborhood Access

UPDATE as of 4 p.m. July 25: The Ricky Fire in the northern portion of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve is 100% contained. As a result, the northern section of Scottsdale's Preserve will re-open at sunrise on Friday.
UPDATE as of 7 a.m. July 25: Wednesday night at 6:45 p.m. Scottsdale Fire was dispatched to smoke in an area north of Scottsdale at approximately 136th Street. Crews found a brush fire and lightning in the area. The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management and Scottsdale Fire were able to get a containment line around the fire at 10 acres. By 7 a.m. Thursday, July 25, the fire is contained, and crews are mopping up.
