The ballot features races for mayor and two City Council seats along with two propositions. Prop. 490 is a 0.15% city sales tax rate that would go into effect July 1, 2025, after a current 0.20% sales tax rate expires. Funds would be used solely to fund improvements, maintenance, and protection of city parks and recreational facilities, and maintenance and protection of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.

Prop. 491 asks voters whether to increase the city’s state-imposed expenditure limitation baseline. This would not increase or decrease any tax. The proposed change would allow the city to operate within an expenditure limitation that more closely matches existing revenue sources to meet current and planned services and programs. 

The voter registration deadline for the General Election is Oct. 7; early voting begins Oct. 9. 

An informational (publicity) pamphlet was mailed the week of Sept. 30 to every household with a registered voter and is posted on the city’s election website. The pamphlet provides information about the election and the candidates, ballot text language, questions and answers about each ballot measure, and arguments supporting and opposing the ballot measures.
