Greg Caton, Scottsdale's interim city manager, is making a handful of organizational changes focused on streamlining city operations while better supporting the services and staff in those areas.
The moves are part of Caton's review of the organization after the departure of former Assistant City Manager Bill Murphy, tapping three veteran leaders within the organization to take on expanded responsibilities who will direct areas with similar functions.
Judy Doyle, a city of Scottsdale employee for more than 22 years, has been promoted to oversee several city functions which share a business-oriented approach not common to other city operations.
Doyle will oversee Scottsdale Airport (Aviation), Tourism & Events, WestWorld, McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park and Scottsdale Stadium.
Nick Molinari, a 27-year city of Scottsdale employee, will oversee the Scottsdale Parks and Recreation Department, and the McDowell Sonoran Preserve Department.
And Kira Peters, a 28-year city employee, will oversee Human Services, the Community Assistance Office, and Scottsdale Library.
With this change, the Community Services Division is morphing into these three separate areas.
Caton looks forward to the potential synergies and efficiencies that will be created by organizing these functions under these experienced leaders. These changes will be effective Feb. 10.
In communicating the intent of the modifications, Caton commented, “This reduces a layer of management and creates efficiencies with these operations reporting directly to the city manager. With these changes, the vacant assistant city manager/executive director position will not be filled.”
