With pickleball’s popularity on the rise, Scottsdale Parks and Recreation has partnered with Scottsdale Community College (SCC) to offer free access for drop-in play in an effort to meet the demand. Instruction-based programs will be available at a nominal fee.
There are six pickleball courts on SCC’s campus located just west of the Fitness Wellness Center. Under this partnership agreement, the courts are free to use for drop-in play and accessible daily from 6 a.m. – 8 p.m. (excluding holidays, campus closures and when SCC pickleball classes are being held). Further details on classes and clinics will be made available at a later date on SCC’s website.
Resident feedback during the Parks and Recreation Master Plan process identified pickleball as one of the top five most desired future recreation programs among Scottsdale residents. This partnership will provide more opportunities for residents to learn and play on a regular basis.
In exchange, the city will support SCC by promoting its pickleball activities in the city’s Scottsdale Life Magazine and through social media channels. Additionally, SCC will receive up to $1,000 annually from the city to assist with equipment replacement, ensuring the continued quality and accessibility of the courts.
“This partnership allows us to meet the growing demand for pickleball use in Scottsdale,” said Community Services Assistant Executive Director Nick Molinari. “It expands access to instruction and play for our residents - while allowing us to support SCC’s commitment to recreational opportunities, as well.”
The initial term of the agreement is two years, with the option to extend for three additional one-year periods upon mutual agreement.
