The Great Desert Escape – The largest escape of prisoners of war in North America during World War II happened right here in Scottsdale. Join historian and author Keith Warren Lloyd as he explores the factors leading up to the escape, the escape itself and the aftermath. Honoring Preserve Pioneers – On Oct. 3, 1994, the Scottsdale City Council took a historic step when it passed Resolution No. 4103, formally establishing the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. This is the story of the foresight and vision of the community to permanently protect the McDowell Mountains and Sonoran Desert. MLK Celebration – Scottsdale’s celebration serves as a signature event for the entire valley that includes nationally renowned speakers representing a myriad of diversity perspectives honoring the history and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Author and former politician Bakari Sellers is this year's featured speaker. Bakari made history in the 2006 South Carolina state legislature as the youngest African American elected official in the nation at the age of 22. He has served as a featured speaker at various political events, universities and national trade organizations across the country. Neighborhood College – These programs help provide residents, neighborhood groups and homeowners associations with the information, resources and tools needed to become effective neighborhood leaders. Sundays at 2, 7 and 11 a.m.; 3, 6 and 9 p.m.
Scottsdale Fire Department Training Facility Dedication – The Scottsdale Fire Department officially dedicated its newly modernized and expanded training facility. Marking a significant step for public safety training in Scottsdale and the region, the facility includes three separate burn towers and rescue training buildings, outside training areas for hazardous materials and aircraft fire fighting, classrooms and training auditorium, and a fire station environment. Stories from the Files of the Scottsdale Police Department – Take a look at some fascinating crimes, directly from the files of the Scottsdale Police Department! Cases include an explosive situation at a city facility that targeted a city employee and a bank robbery that started in Scottsdale and led to an international manhunt. Veterans AZ – Veterans AZ celebrates veterans across the great state of Arizona and highlights their stories and accomplishments. Yesterdays: Spring Training – From the old Channel 11 archives comes this interview show featuring former city manager Dick Bowers talking with Charlie and Gwen Briley, former owners of the Pink Pony restaurant. Charlie recalls the drive to bring baseball spring training in Scottsdale starting in 1956. They reminisce about the baseball stars who came into the restaurant, including Dizzy Dean, Joe DeMaggio and Roger Hornsby.
