Scottsdale Water Executive Director Brian Biesemeyer was awarded Person of the Year by Arizona Water Association and Arizona WateReuse at the 2024 Arizona WateReuse Symposium. Biesemeyer, his directors and key employees were actively involved in the conference to moderate panels and facilitate on key topics involving Advanced Water Purification.

In recognition of his 30 years of dedication and leadership in water and water reuse, Brian has spearheaded and guided innovative initiatives while leading Scottsdale Water and is recognized as a true leader in the water industry. Under his leadership, Scottsdale Water was the first to receive an Advanced Water Purification permit in Arizona and the first to launch a Citizen Water Academy to cultivate public participation. Biesemeyer demonstrates an exemplary professional relationship within the industry and across the state.

“Brian has been a steady and active leader with a mission to preserve our water resources and diversify our water supply to take us into the future. He has always been willing to meet with public groups, our city council, and present to community boards. He has been a visionary for Scottsdale and always seeks to find solutions,” said Assistant City Manager Greg Caton.

Over his tenure with Scottsdale Water, Brian has been active in water reuse and is a past national board member of the WateReuse Association and a past president of WateReuse Arizona. Brian is also a past chair and current member of the Management Board of the Arizona Municipal Water Users Association.

“This award is a great honor and reflects well on Scottsdale Water as an organization that lives its vision of “water sustainability through stewardship, innovation, and people,” said Biesemeyer. “I am honored to be part of an organization that is dedicated to using innovative strategies to ensure water supplies for many generations.”

The award was presented at the 2024 Annual WateReuse Conference last week in Flagstaff.

Scottsdale Water – the city’s municipal water utility – has been providing quality drinking water and advanced reclamation services to Scottsdale businesses and residents for over 50 years.  An industry leader, the utility has been recognized with the prestigious Platinum Award for Utility Excellence by the Association of Municipal Water Agencies and the Utility of the Future Today from the EPA.
