Scottsdale Interim City Manager Greg Caton has appointed Police Chief Jeff Walther as an interim assistant city manager, effective Jan. 27. Assistant Police Chief Joe LeDuc was appointed to serve as interim police chief during Walther’s time in the City Manager’s Office.

As an interim assistant city manager, Walther will oversee Communications and Human Resources, while retaining oversight of the Police Department. He is a 30-year Scottsdale Police Department veteran who has served as police chief since 2020. Recognized as Arizona’s “Chief of the Year” in 2022 and winner of the 2024 City of Scottsdale Bill Donaldson Award, Walther brings extensive leadership experience to the City Manager’s Office.

“This appointment ensures stability and strengthens our organization for the future,” Interim City Manager Greg Caton said.

Joe LeDuc, a 33-year Scottsdale Police veteran, has been promoted to interim police chief. He has held leadership roles across the department, including overseeing Internal Affairs, Special Investigations, and two police districts. Since 2021, LeDuc has served as assistant chief, earning numerous awards for his leadership and service.

“I am honored to lead and continue the legacy of excellence established by Chief Walther,” LeDuc said.

These appointments reflect a commitment to continuity and leadership excellence as Scottsdale prepares for the future.
