FAQs

The city wants to ensure the safety of its visitors and residents by preventing drowning incidents.
- Are all short-term rental properties required to have pool barriers?
Yes, the property is required to have a pool barrier in operable condition regardless of the age of the property or the pool.
- What are the barrier requirements?
All properties must have a perimeter fence (60” in height) around the back yard that prevents the public from easily accessing the pool. Additionally, the property must have a secondary barrier that restricts access by guests to the pool itself. This can be either a separate pool fence (60” in height) or audible alarm system on doors and windows leading to the pool area.
All gates must be self-closing and self-latching. Latches should be placed at least 54” in height and be equipped to accommodate a locking mechanism.
See the graphic above for a clear image of these requirements.
- Are spas or hot tubs required to have a barrier?
